SharePoint and Location Free Workplaces

Here at the SharePoint Summit 2010 conference in Montreal, the topic of Location Free Workplaces came up in one of the keynote presentations. The concept is that no matter where in the world you happen to be (or whether you have your regular computer, a shared computer, kiosk or PDA), you should be able accomplish your daily tasks.

This is a key application scenario where data, information and business process replication is a key requirement for organizations with mulitple offices. People in remote locations don't want to wait and wait documents and other data to be downloaded the browser running on their local computer. They want fast, near real-time access (reasonable speeds, bandwidth and low latency access) to the current information and business processes they need to successfully complete their day-to-day tasks.

Wide area network performance is increasing over time but it's not keeping up with peoples' need to be more productive ...or more importantly, they're need to eliminate "dead time" when their not accomplishing anything (e.g. waiting for a document to download a document or a form from a remote server).

Consider making your organization's SharePoint data, information and business processes more usable and your people more productive by making your critiersal business processes locally replicatable.
